CLOWNS, UNICORNS AND SHARKS, OH MY! — Sam (Jared Padalecki) is forced to confront a childhood fear when a case takes him and Dean (Jensen Ackles) to Kansas to investigate Plucky Pennywhistle’s Magical Menagerie, a local pizza chain that hosts children’s birthday parties. Sam and Dean discover that the victims’ children had recently been to the restaurant and drawn a picture of their worst fear, which then came to life to kill their parent. On the Friday, Feb. 10 episode, the Winchester brothers investigate the Plucky Pennywhistle’s Magical Menagerie pizza chain in Kansas. Turns out some local children visited the eatery, drew a picture of their worst fear, and some embodiment of that fear killed their parents. As any Supernatural fan knows, clowns are Sam’s No. 1 phobia, and he’s left to face a couple of irate clowns while Dean (Jensen Ackles) hunts down the source of magic.
“The guys playing the clowns were both extremely nice,” Jared Padalecki, who plays Sam, tells TVGuide.com. “One of them I’d already met before. A big, burly, powerful, awesome, nice fellow. The other one was an actual guy who had worked with the circus before. But once you deck them up and doll them up in costumes, they look pretty scary. There’s a big twist to their costume, which you’ll see. They’re certainly not just big, happy clowns.”

J.P.: He comes face-to-face, hand-to-hand, physical conflict, and mental anguish with really scarly, gnarly, burly clowns. There is something supernatural behind them. We’re in an episode where we don’t know why, but our worst fears are coming to life, and I get stuck in the vortex when I’m not expecting it. I don’t know why because I didn’t “partake”…and I get broadsided with it.

She is particularly looking forward to messing with Sam’s mind in what sounds like a hilarious upcoming episode about childhood nightmares coming to life. “Sam gets beaten up by clowns,” she says gleefully. “As we all know, Sam is really afraid of clowns, so an upcoming episode takes place at a Chuck-E-Cheese type place. One of those birthday party pizza place, slash stop-bugging-your-parents-for-ten-minutes places. They pick up a case that takes place at Pennywhistle’s Magical Menagerie, and Sam has terrible childhood memories of this place. It’s just full of clown imagery.”
If you’re thinking we’ve been there, done that, you’re wrong. “If you thought that early episode when he was confronted by a few clowns at that carnival was bad, you ain’t seen nothing yet,” Gamble teases. “It is about your worst nightmare. Childhood fears are kind of coming to life, and attacking people in this episode, so it was an opportunity for us to get really fantastical with what can attack people. Unicorns and stuff like that. It was a really fun episode, but the clowns are really the highlight for us.”

Question: Dude… show some love. Where is the Supernatural scoop? — Robin
Ausiello: During an upcoming visit to Plucky Pennywhistle’s Magical Menagerie — think Chuck-E-Cheese minus Chuck and possibly also the cheese — the Winchesters will run afoul of an employee who comes off like Peter Pan… but underneath is probably more like Captain Hook.
