The Winchesters will need all the help they can get battling The Darkness, which brings us to Season 11’s theme: “You can’t outrun your past.” Dean and Sam “have to make some unexpected and unholy alliances involving folks from their past, which will have personal ramifications,” exec producer Jeremy Carver reveals. Will any of said people be fan faves who died? “We’re talking about a fight that is going to incorporate the likes of Heaven and Hell and those on Earth. So there’s certainly opportunity to see folks that have departed,” the EP replies. Perhaps one of them can provide some answers, because “there’s a lot of mystery to not only what or who The Darkness is” – maybe it’s a she? – “but what The Darkness wants,” Carver says. And while Castiel will be working alongside the brothers, he first needs to “find a way out of this spell that Rowena has cast.”

BONUS SPOILER!: Praise be! “We’re going to see more of a vintage Crowley in terms of scheming, less caring about Dean and Sam,” Carver shares.

RETURN DATE: Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 9/8c (The CW)

Question: Supernatural scoop, please! —Shirin
Ausiello: Remember how executive producer Jeremy Carver teased at Comic-Con that some fan favorite characters will return in Season 11 (premiering Oct. 7), and in surprising ways? It sounds like their reappearance could be tied to the new Big Bad. “As responsible as the boys feel for having released The Darkness and how much they personally want to defeat it, they’re not going to be able to do it alone,” the EP tells TVLine. “They’re going to have to confront some figures from their past. They’re going to have to make some unexpected and unholy alliances involving folks from their past, which will have personal ramifications, as well. Because these are some pretty significant figures from their past.”

Spoilers about he Darkness in Season 11 from Andrew Dabb in SFX magazine…

Andrew Dabb:

In episode one, Dean and Sam are coming off the catastrophe of last season. There’s a moment where its like “Okay, we’re in this. This bad thing has happened. We have to save these people. We have to get out of here.” So right away they are put together. But as the bigger questions get raised, Sam and Dean are suddenly on the same page. Everyone wants the same thing, but their approach may be a little different. That’s where I think you’ll see bumps in the road.

A huge bump with be Amara, the Darkness character now roaming unchecked. “She’s a really interesting character, mainly because she’s very alien to this world. She’s been locked away since the dawn of creation. She has a very interesting point of view with how she approaches everything. There are ways – because the Darkness is such a big thing – to connect a lot of our different characters in terms of the impact on the witches, the impact on Hell and on heaven and on the guys. We’re hoping she has a big ripple effect for us”

Since the finale of Supernatural, fans have been wondering: Will there be consequences for Dean after he killed Death? –Ana
Rest assured there will be repercussions “to a certain extent — and probably in the first batch of episodes, we’ll start to address that,” executive producer Jeremy Carver teases. “You can imagine that it causes some issues.”

Any scoop on where our Supernatural boys will be in Season 11? Particularly Cas? —Meg
Cas has a lot on his plate, like “dealing with the effects of the attack dog spell and the stabbing of Crowley and The Darkness,” Misha Collins previews. Speaking of that pre-biblical foe, “It is a very, very big bad ominous force that angels only heard of as a scary bedtime story,” the actor explains. “Cas didn’t think that The Darkness was a real thing. So it’s that old of a force.”
