Jensen Ackles: Mountain Man or Porn Star? Supernatural Stud Talks Big Changes Ahead

If anyone gives good face, it’s Jensen Ackles.

When we caught up with the Supernatural star sporting a scruffy beard at the CW upfronts, naturally we asked some hard-hitting news questions.

For example: Is he going for mountain man or porn star with his new grizzly-guy style?

Read on to hear our two-time Alpha Male Madness champion’s answer—plus his reaction to SPN’s midweek move and the show’s new showrunner.

“Is there a way to do both?” Dean Winchester’s alter ego countered when we asked whether he was going for mountain man or porn star with his “hiatus scruff.” Yes, please!

“Now I just got to come up with a name!”

Any ideas, fans? After all, Jensen always appreciates your input.

“I think it’s a testament to the fans,” he said about the show’s move to Wednesday from Friday nights, normally a time slot “where shows go to die,” he joked, before pointing out that SPN’s ratings actually increased on date night. “The fact that that happened—that the fans only not followed us, but got really loud about promoting the show—it’s a testament to how great our fans really are and the writing and the production and the crew and how hard we [work].

“To put us on midweek is a big pat on the back, and it’s humbling.”

Jensen didn’t drop any clues on what to expect after tomorrow night’s finale, but he promises, “I’m going to go bend the ear of our new showrunner, Jeremy Carver, when I get back out to L.A.

“I know he’s got a lot of great ideas. He turned out some of the best scripts we’ve had, so the fact that he’s now coming back and going to run the show is really exciting to everyone involved.”

‘Supernatural’ Finale: Jensen Ackles On How Season 7 Ends And What’s To Come In Season 8

It’s a good week for “Supernatural” fans. Friday is the Season 7 finale (9 p.m. ET), and the CW just announced that next season, the long-standing series will move from its Friday death slot to Wednesdays, behind the network’s much-anticipated newcomer, “Arrow.”

At The CW upfronts presentation in New York on Thursday, “Supernatural” star Jensen Ackles teased the Season 7 finale, which will see the Winchester brothers (Ackles’ Dean and Jared Padalecki’s Sam) attempt to take down the Leviathans — and Dick Roman — for good.

“We will find Dean in a situation at the end of the season that he’s never been in,” Ackles told HuffPost TV.

“Two of the fan favorites find themselves in a massive predicament,” the actor added. “There’s a big attempt to handle the Leviathan situation once and for all. Whether that works or not is yet to be seen. It definitely gives us somewhere to go in Season 8. There’s a lot of loose ends that could get tied up.

‘Supernatural’ star Jared Padalecki teases some Sam and Dean separation and finale goodbyes

On Thursday, The CW brought its stars to New York for the announcement of its Fall 2012 schedule, and “Supernatural” fans were surprised that after years of reliable performance on Friday nights, the show is moving to Wednesdays.

“Hey guys, we’re on Wednesdays,” star Jared Padalecki laughed on the red carpet. “Y’all can all go out drinking again.” The move was made to pair “Supernatural” with freshman drama “Arrow,” which will hopefully help boost numbers for both action-driven series.

Padalecki welcomed his son Thomas just two months ago, and he admits to being on “baby time” right now. Given that “Supernatural” has just two leads, days off during shooting are pretty rare. Padalecki explains that after the events of tomorrow night’s Season 7 finale, there will be some opportunity for Sam and Dean to spend a little time apart — which could mean a few more days off for him and co-star Jensen Ackles.

“You’ll see why tomorrow, but we’re going to have a wonderful opportunity to see the brothers apart, and I hope, I hope, I hope we take advantage of it,” Padalecki says.

Supernatural was moved to Wednesdays at 9pm, after their new drama Arrow:

8:00-9:00 PM – ARROW (New Series)
9:00-10:00 PM – SUPERNATURAL (New Night)

Also, Supernatural won’t start until early October:

And interestingly, instead of starting its season one or two *before* the other broadcast networks, the CW will start in “early October”, which is at least two (or more) weeks after the other broadcast networks. That’s one way to reduce your repeat hiatus time during the season.
