Mark Pedowitz about the show, from TVLine:

* “The Supernatural spin-off that came in, creatively, did not quite get where we wanted it to go,” Pedowitz said when asked why Bloodlines wasn’t picked up. “We have told Jeremy [Carver] and Eric [Kripke] and Bob [Singer] that we’re very open to do another spin-off. We’re waiting for them to come in with whatever the new concept is. I would love to get another Supernatural spin-off [on the network].”

* Pedowitz also discussed the upcoming Supernatural special with TVLine after the panel: “It’s a treat to the fans who’ve supported the show for the prior nine years. It’s taking you back all through the nine years. It’s giving you some commentary from the cast and the creators, Eric Kripke, and the executive producers. It’s fun. It tells you what happened over the past nine years.”

Supernatural Stars, Boss Drop Season 10 Spoilers, Talk Series’ Endless Future

Supernatural: 10 (plus) seasons and a movie?

Stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki and executive producer Jeremy Carver did not seem ready to hang up their demon-hunting hats on Friday at the Television Critics Assoc. summer press tour in Beverly Hills.

“There’s so much story left to tell,” Carver said, giving props to the cast and crew. “It remains the hardest-working bunch I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. There’s no quit in anybody.”

For his part, Padalecki is on board to stick with the show as long as the quality remains up to par, and he has no doubt that it will under Carver’s direction, he noted.

“I truly do deeply care about this show and about Sam Winchester,” Padalecki said. “I don’t want him to be broken down, beaten down into something I don’t respect. And I respect this show. … We know the show enough and our characters, if there’s an end coming, we’ll all see it and won’t have to push it. When it’s time to hang up the Sam Winchester hat, I’ll welcome that chapter.”

Added Ackles: “I think we’re all on the same page. We still get excited about it. That hasn’t tarnished in 10 years.” In fact, after the reading the Season 9 cliffhanger, he “got all giddy about it. As long as there’s that fulfillment, that excitement, then we’ll keep going.”

So what does the upcoming season have in store to keep the actors giddy? There will be some new characters — demons, angels, ghosts, werewolves — and of course, “a side of Dean we’ve never seen,” Carver teased.

“We’ll be staying with Demon Dean for more than one episode,” the EP revealed. And it’ll be a “different type of Demon Dean then you might expect.”

Elsewhere, “while Sam is on the hunt for his brother, there is another mysterious character who is on the same hunt” and causes complications for the brothers, continued Carver. On the heavenly front, “Castiel is very much in the picture at the beginning of Season 10,” although he’s “in danger of dying” due to his fading grace.

As for how Supernatural might one day wrap, Carver admitted it’s tricky because “I know that [creator] Eric Kripke always had an ending in mind.”

“I have an image…but I always want to keep room for happy accidents as well,” he added. “The show is continuing on beyond any of our wildest dreams, so I don’t think I want to limit ourselves. … All the writers, we have images in our heads, but our minds are wide open.”

Supernatural Is Doing a “Musical-ish” Episode!

Are Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki singing on Supernatural?!

The CW hit is tackling a major first in Season 10: At the 2014 Summer TCA Press Tour, showrunner Jeremy Carver revealed to E! News that Supernatural’s 200th episode will be something of a “musical-ish” episode, which the longrunning series has never done. Feel free to take a moment to bask in the sheer awesomeness of this idea.

“I think it’ll be one of the more amusing and engaging episodes we’ve done in a while. I think we can safely call this a meta episode,” Carver previewed of the milestone outing, which will be the fifth episode of the new season. “We’re going pretty meta. I would just describe it as something of a love letter to our fans and there will be songs.”

Of course, we had some immediate follow-up questions:

Are Jensen and Jared singing? “I cannot comment any further than that. [Laughs.]”

Will there be dancing? “Potentially.”

Is it just one song? “There will be more than one song.”

Will they be original songs or covers? “There will be a little of both. It’s just going to be real fun and it’s a real celebration of the show and particularly the fans of the show.”

‘Supernatural’ Season 10: Stars and Showrunner Tease Demon Dean, Show’s Ultimate End

In honor of “Supernatural’s” upcoming tenth season, The CW brought showrunner Jeremy Carver and stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki to the Television Critics Assn. summer press tour to reflect on the show’s milestone anniversary and the future of the cult hit.

While stars Ackles and Padalecki conceded that they’re not getting any younger when it comes to performing stunts — “it has become more difficult, and we’re by no means senior citizens right now; I’m 32 and Jensen’s, what, 48?” Padalecki quipped — neither has any desire to end the show, at least for the foreseeable future.

“I think we’re all on the same page — we still get excited about it. That hasn’t tarnished in 10 years. I remember getting the season finale and I got all giddy about it; I was excited to see what happens in season ten,” Ackles admitted. “As long as there’s that fulfillment and excitement, we’ll keep going with it.”

Still, they don’t see the show going on indefinitely. “If the show quality diminishes, if it ever reaches a spot where we get a phone call from Jeremy… ‘we feel we’ve said what needs to be said…’ [that’s fine],” Padalecki said. “I truly do care deeply about this show and Sam Winchester — I don’t want him to be broken down and beaten down into something I end up not respecting… I think we know the show enough and know our characters enough to know: If there’s an end coming, I think we’ll all see it.”

For now, though, Carver is confident in their trajectory heading into the tenth season. “There’s so much story left to tell, which is remarkable given we’re in season 129 already,” he laughed.

As is the show’s tradition, season nine ended with one hell of a cliffhanger — quite literally, since Ackles’ Dean was resurrected from the dead as a demon. “We’ll see demons and angels, ghosts and werewolves,” Carver teased of the new season. “We’ll be seeing, of course, a side of Dean that we’ve never seen, which is Demon Dean, and we’ll be staying with Demon Dean for more than one episode, and I think we’ll probably be seeing a different type of Demon Dean than you might expect, which is something we’re all pretty excited about.” In season ten, the series will also introduce a new character who is as interested in Dean’s change in perspective as Sam and Crowley are. “While Sam is on the hunt for his brother, there is another rather mysterious character who is on the same hunt and causes all kinds of complications for the boys,” Carver added. “[And] Castiel is very much in the picture, we come back with him where we left off; his grace is fading, he’s in danger of dying if he doesn’t figure out a way of dealing with it.”

Ackles and Padalecki demonstrated their decade-long friendship on the panel, admitting that the secret to the show’s success is in their camaraderie in front of the camera and behind the scenes.

“We have spent probably more time with each other than any other human on the planet over the last 10 years,” Ackles noted. “If he wasn’t here, I would probably elaborate a little bit more. I’ve learned a lot from him. He is a brother on and off screen, and we’ll forever have a friendship that is a lot different than most, because it’s really truly unique because of what we’ve gone through together, and it’s been quite an amazing ride. I’m just glad we’re still trekking along.”

Padalecki agreed, “I feel like I’d be doing a disservice if I tried to put into words what I’ve learned from Jensen, with Jensen; we’ve literally grown up together… We went from single twenty-somethings to fathers, husbands, and it’s hard to kind of quantify with a few short sentences exactly what all that encompasses.”

After the panel, Ackles continued to praise Padalecki in a smaller group interview with reporters: “I truly do get along with Jared as well as anyone could ever hope to get along with a coworker. That really makes for just a fun place to work. We laugh with our camera crew, with our sound guys, with electrics and grips and everybody, it’s just one happy dysfunctional family. I think the fact that we have these relationships is probably the greatest thing that’s happened to me since the start of the show.”

Ackles was also effusive in praising co-stars Misha Collins (Castiel) and Mark Sheppard (Crowley), who are series regulars in season ten. “[Mark’s] on as a contract player now, we’ve got Misha fully contracted now, and I couldn’t be more excited. Personally I think it’s something we probably could’ve done a couple years ago, because I think they’re integral to the story and to the boys moving forward,” he said. “It definitely is going to make for some interesting storylines and arcs this year, having them both available to us full time, not having to share Mark with another series or having to share Misha with something else. The fact that they’re both on full time was welcome to us.”

Ackles is also directing the third episode of season ten, which filmed first to allow the star to prepare for the added workload. “They bumped mine up to the front of the list to allow me to come back a little early from my hiatus, do the prep, do the shoot, and now we’re starting our season premiere today — they kindly wrote Jared and I out of the first day so that we could come and spend the day with you,” he explained. “In preparing to direct the episode that I just directed, I went back and started picking up some episodes. I went all the way back to the pilot, watched a couple more in season one, season two, some of the big arc shows, the ones that move the mythology, the story along… I just wanted to get fired up again and it inspires me to go back and see how far we’ve come and what we’ve done.”

Playing Dean as a demon while directing was a particular challenge, Ackles admitted. “I’ve only had one episode to do it, and it was an episode I was directing, so my mind was a little scattered, but luckily I was overly prepared as a director so I was able to concentrate on the performance of demon Dean. It was fun for this episode, but the next two, I believe, are going to be even more entertaining.”

On the panel, Carver discussed a potential ending for the show at some point down the line. “I know that Eric Kripke always had an ending in mind — which he hasn’t yet shared with me — and I have an image and the like, but I always want to keep room for happy accidents as well,” he said. “The show is continuing on beyond any of our wildest dreams, so I don’t think we want to limit ourselves. Just because I have the perfect image in my head, doesn’t mean one of these guys couldn’t come up with something okay. I think we have images in our heads but our minds are wild.”

Following the panel, Ackles agreed, “The end is — like Jeremy said — it’s still up in the air. They have an idea, I have some ideas. I have dreams about the way the show is going to end, so I try to log all that and keep it contained, because I don’t want to have any expectations just yet. I still get wowed when I read these guys’ scripts. I still get excited, I still get inspired, and I never want that to change.”

“Supernatural” season ten premieres Tues., Oct. 7 at 9 p.m on The CW.

Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki Open Up About Supernatural’s “Remarkable” Fans

If there’s one thing I learned at the Summer TCA panel for Supernatural, it’s that Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki love their fans. The two are coming up on a 10th season playing Dean and Sam Winchester, and while we did get spoilers for the new season, it was mostly Ackles and Padalecki talking about how the show’s giant fan base has kept them wanting to come back year after year. Here are some of their best quotes from the panel about Supernatural viewers, their relationship with each other, and why the show probably won’t end anytime soon.

On Developing a Brotherhood With Each Other

“We have spent probably more time with each other than with any other human on the planet over the past 10 years. I’ve learned a lot from him, and he is a brother, on and off screen. We’ll forever have a friendship that is a lot different than most because of what we’ve gone through together. It’s been an amazing ride, and I’m glad we’re still chugging through together.” — Ackles

“I would be doing it a disservice to try to put into words what I’ve been through with Jensen. We’ve more than grown up together. We went from single 20-somethings to fathers, husbands, and it’s hard to quantify in a few short sentences exactly what all that encompasses.” — Padalecki

On Whether the Show Will End Soon

“The short answer is no. I truly do care about this show and Sam Winchester. I’m 32 years old tomorrow, and I’ve spent nine years of my life with him, and I don’t want him to be broken down to something that I end up not respecting. I respect this character, and I respect this show and all our writers and all our actors. We know the show enough and the characters enough to know if there’s an end coming. I think we’ll all see it and we won’t have to push it. For me, I’ve been able to do a lot during the show. I have some kids and a wife. I love my personal life very much, and when it’s time to end my Sam Winchester hat, I’ll welcome that chapter.” — Padalecki

“We’re still on the same page, which is that we still all get excited about it, and that hasn’t tarnished; it continues. I remember getting the last script of the season-nine finale, and I got all giddy about it; I got excited to see what happens in season 10. As long as there’s that fulfillment, that enjoyment, and that excitement, then yeah, we will keep going. As long people are still hanging in there with us and entertained. We love telling the story; we love these guys.” — Ackles

On Supernatural’s Dedicated Fan Base

“What’s been remarkable to me is I will meet fully functional adults, whether they’re 15- or 16-year-old boys or girls who are talking about getting their driver’s licenses and going to prom, and they’ll say, ‘I started watching Supernatural when I was 6 years old.’ I’ll go, ‘What? What do you mean?!’ Jensen and I have the good fortune and take the opportunity to regularly go see our fans, both face to face locally, domestically, and internationally. We meet dozens upon dozens of people who have been watching since they were in school, and now they’re having kids of their own as we’re having them. It’s such an honor to be a part of it. Jensen and I look at each other like, ‘Man, are they going to keep watching the show?’ And we realize not only are the people who have been with us since the beginning continuing to watch, but we’re gaining a whole new audience.” — Padalecki

“Just when you think we’re able to identify our fans, I’ll have a 75-year-old TSA woman checking my passport who will go, ‘I love your show, I’ve seen every episode since season one with my granddaughter. . . . But you’re going to have to pour that water out.’ It’s really inspiring for us to not only meet our fans face to face, but also, with the birth of Netflix, all of our seasons are more available, and I’m hearing more about teenage viewing parties. They’ll have sleepovers and knock out a whole season. We just happen to have nearly 200 episodes on demand, so it gives them something to watch, I suppose.” — Ackles

On Why the Show Clicks With Young Viewers So Well

“It’s not the classic coming-of-age story, but it is about struggling with seemingly insurmountable obstacles, which I think helps a lot of teens who think high school is the worst. This is obviously a very different world, but it’s nice to be there for a teenager. These boys literally have the world against them, and they keep fighting. It’s a crazy dynamic and a real honor to be a part of it.” — Padalecki

On Supernatural’s Fan Fiction

“If the fans are latching onto these characters and coming up with their own creativity . . . if this inspires a conversation, fantastic. It’s art, we’re entertainment, and people can draw from it what they will.” — Ackles

“I would love to read some of it, if I had time. I love that it’s inspiring, though. That’s the point of art and music. I do intend to someday go back and be a fan of it, because I am a fan of this.” — Padalecki

Coming Up Next on Supernatural: Ghosts, Werewolves, and a Very “Different” Demon Dean

Supernatural is celebrating its 10th season, and the Winchester brothers, aka Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, appeared during The CW’s Summer TCA day to talk about the show. Alongside the show’s stars was executive producer Jeremy Carver, who spilled some details about what to expect next!

“We will be seeing some new characters that I can tease a little bit. We’ll be seeing demons and angels and ghosts and werewolves. We’ll be seeing a side of Dean that we’ve never seen before, which is Demon Dean. We’ll be staying with Demon Dean for more than one episode; you’ll probably be seeing a different type of Demon Dean than you might expect, which is something we’re all pretty excited about. While Sam is on the hunt for his brother, there is another rather mysterious character who is on the same hunt, who causes all kinds of complications for the boys. There are a host of others that I can’t go into right now, for fear of spoiling stuff. Castiel is very much in the picture at the beginning of season 10, his grace’s fading, and he is in danger of dying if he doesn’t figure out a way to deal with it.”
