Supernatural: Jeremy Carver Teases Dean’s Grief, Sam’s Gadreel Reaction & Cas’ War
The midseason finale of Supernatural ended with the tragic death of prophet Kevin Tran. After allowing an angel to possess his brother (albeit with a manipulated acceptance from Sam), Dean was horrified to learn that a rogue angel had taken possession of Sam and had lied about his identity. When Metatron made this discovery, he used Gadreel and Sam’s body to kill Kevin and steal back the angel tablet.
Now Dean must figure out a way to work through his grief about Kevin’s death and get Gadreel out of his brother while also dealing with Sam’s reaction. And Castiel will be drawn deeper and deeper into the angel war now that he has recovered some grace. We spoke to Supernatural boss Jeremy Carver about the lengths Dean is prepared to go to save Sam, how his decisions will impact the brothers’ relationships and how Cas will feel about being an angel again.

Supernatural‘s mid-season finale left us with our jaws on the floor and tears in our eyes — if only we looked as pretty as Dean does when he cries, amirite? In case you need a reminder, things ended with a not-so-friendly Gadreel taking off in Sam’s body, but not before he killed our favorite prophet Kevin Tran (Osric Chau).
When we spoke with executive producer Jeremy Carver immediately following the event, he explained the decision to lose Kevin as well as what comes next for Dean. But what’s next for Castiel? And what’s happening with the spin-off? We caught up with Carver once again to follow-up on some of his answers, as well as get some more information about the second half of season 9:
