Jeffrey Dean Morgan Interview – Red Dawn, The Fields
Rebecca Murray from About.com Hollywood Movies at the Los Angeles Premiere of Warner Bros Pictures’ Clash of the Titans.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan – Red Dawn, The Fields and Supernatural
I want to know about Red Dawn because I love the original movie. How close is it to the original? Jeffrey Dean Morgan: “It’s really close. I think the script is really close. I think it won’t have Patrick Swayze and Emilio Estevez – it’ll be us guys. The explosions, the effects will be bigger. But it’s got a lot of action in it, but the story stays pretty true to what the original was. We had a great time shooting it. Hopefully that will translate. I’m excited for it too.”
How did you have a great time shooting that?
Jeffrey Dean Morgan: “That’s a good question. Because the cast is great. Michigan was brutal in November and December. It was rough. But the cast is awesome, some really bright young kids. I was very excited and happy to work with them.”
And you’re going to do a movie with Sam Worthington next, right?
Jeffrey Dean Morgan: “The Fields. I start a movie with him, I think, in May. We’ve been doing all the pre-production for it the last month, kind of getting into our characters. We met the guys that we’re playing. It’s based on two cops in Texas City, Texas. We went and met them, and a lot of ride-alongs with the LAPD and the LA Sheriffs department. I had to go to homicide school. It was very cool.”
That would be fun to do when it’s not even for a role.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan: “I will say that I saw some things that maybe I didn’t need to see, but, yeah.”
But in the end you think it will help with the character?
Jeffrey Dean Morgan: “I think it will help, yeah. Yeah. I don’t know…when I went to the morgue, I don’t know if that was stuff I necessarily needed to see for the character. It’ll certainly haunt me so maybe that might help. It might help.”
Are these guys happy that a film’s being made of their lives?
Jeffrey Dean Morgan: “They are. Yeah. We hung out with them. Really two cool guys, and they are. I think they’re happy with it. More than okay with it, they had to sign off on the script. And they couldn’t be…two of the better guys you’ll ever meet in your life so it’s going to be a real pleasure playing them. I think we’ll have a great time.”
And so are you guys both cops from Texas or is one of you…?
Jeffrey Dean Morgan: “I play a transplant from New York, but I have been in Texas for I think eight years when the story picks up. And we’ve been partners for eight years. It’s a pretty funny, good, scary, creepy, dark movie, and our relationship is pretty cool. It’s going to be a really good movie. I’m really excited about it.”
Are you going to be back on Supernatural?
Jeffrey Dean Morgan: “I mean, look, I’ve always said, and I’ll remain saying it in these interviews, the last season I’d love to come back and do something. Because I think Jared and Jensen are such great guys, and I’ll keep saying it. No one from Supernatural‘s ever contacted me.”
Well, that’s stupid of them.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan: “I think so too. I think so too. We’ll see. I hear that they will have me back, and they talk about it a lot, but they don’t ever come to me. Eric Kripke, what are you doing?”
I’m surprised they’re actually doing another season because this was supposed to be the end of it.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan: “Yeah, yeah. But I think they hit a groove and they’ll do another year – or maybe more. Who knows?
Smart writing.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan: “Yeah, it’s a really good show. The writing’s great. I hope I can come back and kind of close out that storyline. It’d be great.”
